Design Concepts & Selection
Introduction
After determining the design specifications for the hand-control driving aid, the next step is to create designs. By analyzing previous solutions on the market and collecting preferences on certain features through an independent survey, each member brainstormed individually and then created individual design concepts, and then continually narrowed down and combined ideas until finalizing one design. This report follows the process of developing and selecting a design.
Conclusion
Many different factors were considered when selecting the final design of the product. The numerous brainstormed ideas were brought down to three separate designs by comparing the features and functions of each. A customer survey was also conducted to ensure the success of the product in the market. Using the initial concept sketches and customer feedback, a final design was decided on and created using Fusion 360. The intended operation of this device is to allow spinal cord injury patients to drive a vehicle independently and with only the use of their upper body. Each feature of the CaliCo Hand Control 3000 aligns with the specifications which are outlined in the Justification section and Appendix A of this document.
